Lucidadiol is an extract from the fungus Ganoderma lucidum. It has been shown to be effective against malignant melanoma cells and cervical cancer. Lucidadiol inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by inhibiting their ability to grow new blood vessels, which restricts the growth of tumours. Lucidadiol also has anti-angiogenic effects that are mediated by its inhibition of protein kinase C and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). The COX-2 pathway is involved in the production of prostaglandins, which promote angiogenesis. Lucidadiol is also potent against herpes simplex virus (HSV) and influenza virus. This extract has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against human leukemia cells in vitro.
