Product Information
Ceramide is a sphingolipid that can be found in the membranes of cells, where it plays an important role in maintaining cell shape and helps regulate the passage of molecules into and out of the cell. Ceramide has been linked to cancer, as it is often found in tumor tissue and can promote tumor growth. It also has prognostic value, as high levels are associated with poor outcomes. Ceramide is synthesized from serine and palmitoyl-CoA by the enzyme serine palmitoyltransferase. The addition of hydroxyl groups to ceramide produces different types of ceramides: c18:1 Ceramide (d17:1/18:1(9Z)) or c16:0 Ceramide (d15:0/16:0).
