• Description: The cyclic AMP (cAMP) response element binding protein (CREB) is a transcription factor that regulates the transcription of several genes that mediate important cellular processes. CREB is phosphorylated by several kinases, including PKA- Akt- and CamK I, II, and IV. Phosphorylated pCREB translocates to the nucleus, where it forms homodimers or heterodimers, and recruits p300/CREB binding protein (CBP) to initiate transcription of its target genes. pCREB is an important regulator of apoptosis and is also involved in modulating several immune processes and neuronal plasticity.
