• Description: Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AAG) is one of the major proteins involved in sequestering drugs in the plasma such as: lidocaine- propranolol- verapamil- steroid hormones and phenobarbital. AAG is a member of the acute phase protein (APP) family and is formed primarily in the liver and circulates at low levels in the plasma of healthy humans. In many diseased states including inflammation, infection, and cancer, AAG levels increase from 2 to 6-fold in humans.
