Group I mGluRs are predominantly expressed in the postsynaptic somatodendritic regions, especially in brain areas highly responsive to psychostimulants. mGluR1 is a pivotal regulator of glutamatergic neurotransmission which is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in many neuropathologic conditions.
