Product Information

Name:
(5S)-5-Phenylmorpholin-3-one
Description:

(5S)-5-Phenylmorpholin-3-one is a chiral organic compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of various esters. This compound can be prepared by reacting phenylacetonitrile with trimethyl phosphite. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction depends on the stereochemistry at the methyl group, and it is possible to achieve high diastereoselectivity by using methoxymethyl chloride. The reaction requires a nucleophilic agent such as pyridine or lithium chloride to act as a base catalyst. (5S)-5-Phenylmorpholin-3-one can also be synthesized from l-phenylalanine and dimethyl phosphite. This reaction proceeds in an enantioselective manner due to the presence of a chiral phosphonate ester intermediate.
