1,4-Dicyanonaphthalene is a functional stilbene derivative that has been shown to have photochemical properties. It is a yellow crystalline solid that absorbs light at wavelengths of 350 nm and above. It has an optimum concentration of 10−2 M and its emission maxima is at 350 nm and 450 nm. 1,4-Dicyanonaphthalene can be used in the treatment of dimethyl fumarate. It also reacts with amines to form radical coupling products and with metal ions to form protonated or radical coupled species.
