2,2'-Oxybis(N,N-diethylethanamine) is a benzimidazole derivative that inhibits phosphodiesterases. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cardiac disorders and allergic reactions. 2,2'-Oxybis(N,N-diethylethanamine) may also be used cosmetically to improve skin elasticity. This drug has an inhibitory effect on cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase and is metabolized by hydrolysis to form diethylamine. The pharmacological effects of 2,2'-oxybis(N,N-diethylethanamine) are related to its inhibitory effect on phosphodiesterase enzymes and its ability to act as a cation at physiological pH levels.
