It is one of the most important markers for this species and can be identified by its characteristic absorption bands in the region of 3300 cm−1. 2,6-Dimethyl-1-heptene is not found in other plants so it can be used as a marker for pseudoscabiosa. This molecule has been shown to have a number of different biological functions, including being a substrate for thermogenesis and being involved in phosphate ion transport.
