The mechanism of action of 5-ethylpyridine-3-carboxylic acid is similar to that of thifensulfuron and it also binds to DNA. 5-Ethylpyridine-3-carboxylic acid can be metabolized by plants into toxic metabolites and has been shown to inhibit photosynthetic electron transport in leaves.
