• Description: 3-Hydroxyindole is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives. It can be synthesized from 3-methoxyindole by treatment with trifluoroacetic acid and potassium dichromate, followed by hydrolysis of the resulting 3-hydroxyindole with sodium carbonate. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for the treatment of chronic cough and asthma. The pharmacokinetics of 3-hydroxyindole have been extensively studied in humans and animals. The half-life of 3-hydroxyindole is approximately 2 hours and it is eliminated primarily through renal excretion. This drug also binds to opioid receptors and has been shown to have intramolecular hydrogen bonds.
