- Acridine, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-
Tetrahydroacridine is a sulfa drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase and shows an apoptotic effect in cancer cells. Tetrahydroacridine also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to cell death. This drug is synthesized by the methylation of 4-dimethylaminobenzoic acid with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. The hydroxyl group on tetrahydroacridine can be replaced by a methyl group or chloride ion, which results in different drugs with different functions.
