Ioxynil-methyl is a pesticide that inhibits the growth and development of plants by inhibiting photosynthesis. The uptake, distribution, and metabolism of this compound in animals has not been extensively studied. However, Ioxynil-methyl is toxic to molluscs (e.g., snails and slugs) and can be used as a marker for the presence of these organisms in water samples. Ioxynil-methyl can also be used to calibrate or standardise analytical procedures such as plasma mass spectrometry or chromatography techniques.
