2-Benzyloxybenzyl alcohol is a dienone that can be used for the treatment of diseases such as diabetes mellitus. It is an acidic compound and has a diastereomer that is easily separated by a borohydride reduction. This drug has been shown to have physicochemical properties, such as being colorless, odorless, and having a melting point of about 190°C. 2-Benzyloxybenzyl alcohol also has an active form, which is debenzylated by hydrolysis or oxidation. This active form inhibits platelet aggregation, leading to anti-coagulant effects. 2-Benzyloxybenzyl alcohol also possesses an anti-inflammatory effect due to its inhibitory activity on glyoxalase I and II enzymes in blood platelets.
