It can also be used to synthesize peptides. 1-Chloro-2-(dichlorophenylmethyl)benzene is synthesized by reacting 2-chlorobenzophenone with dichloromethylene, which then undergoes chlorination with phosphorus pentachloride. The product can be purified by vacuum distillation and recrystallization from ethanol.
