Description:

6-Methoxy-1-methyl-9H-Pyrido[3,4-b]indole is a norharmane that belongs to the class of β-carboline alkaloids. It has been shown to cross-couple with other molecules and can be used in the synthesis of more complex molecules. 6-Methoxy-1-methyl-9H-Pyrido[3,4-b]indole also has high affinity for benzodiazepine receptors, which are found in the brain membranes and peripheral tissues of many animals. This compound inhibits uptake of acetaldehyde by rat brain cells at micromolar concentrations and acts as a ligand for benzodiazepine receptors. The affinity of 6methoxyindole is low, but it does act as a competitive antagonist at high concentrations.
