Description:
1,2-Heptanediol is a long-chain polyol that has been shown to have genotoxic effects in the form of DNA adduct formation. Heptanediol is also a precursor for the synthesis of epoxides and can be used as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals. The use of heptanediol in cosmetic products may result in increased skin viscosity and genotoxic effects. It is also used as a solvent for paints, varnishes and oil solutions, which are often used to coat furniture or floors. In addition to its use in cosmetics, 1,2-heptanediol can also be found in some pharmaceuticals such as anti-inflammatory drugs and cough medicines.
