The compound can also be used as a solvent. 2HBS binds to lysine residues in proteins, preventing the protein from functioning properly. This binding can lead to irreversible inhibition of enzymes and other proteins. 2HBS has been shown to have a protective effect against brain infarction in mice by inhibiting hydrogen atom production and reducing the levels of quinoline derivatives.
