Product Information
Totaradiol is a diterpene that belongs to the cupressaceae family of plants. It has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against several gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus anthracis. Totaradiol is also known to inhibit enzymes such as acetyl coenzyme A synthetase and lipoxygenase, which are involved in the inflammatory response. The chemical structure of totaradiol can be classified as an oxygenated, aromatic hydrocarbon that contains two rings and a central carbon chain with two double bonds. Totaradiol inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by inhibiting NADPH oxidases or xanthine oxidases, both of which produce ROS in the presence of their respective substrates. The functional theory suggests that totaradiol may have an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth by binding to lysine residues on bacterial cell walls and preventing the attachment of bacterial
