2-(2,3,4-Trimethoxyphenyl)ethan-1-amine is a drug with anti-diabetic properties that belongs to the class of drugs called aminoguanidine derivatives. It is an optically active compound and has an asymmetric carbon atom. The active enantiomer is 2-(2,3,4-trimethoxyphenyl)ethanamine and the inactive enantiomer is 2-(2,3,4-trimethoxyphenyl)ethylamine. This drug inhibits the activity of aldose reductase which converts glucose into sorbitol.
