It has been shown to have the potential for pharmacokinetic interactions with metals and other drugs. 1,3-Dihydroxy-9-acridinecarboxylic acid has been shown to be toxic in both animals and humans at high doses. The LD50 of this compound in rats is 4 g/kg, and it can cause death by respiratory failure. This compound also causes severe irritation of the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract at high doses. 1,3-Dihydroxy-9-acridinecarboxylic acid has been shown to exhibit oxidative activity in vitro, but its activity in vivo is not well known.
