Oxychelerythrine is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacterial strains, including methicillin-resistant strains. It is a cavity-forming molecule that mimics the natural product apomorphine. Oxychelerythrine also inhibits the efflux pump in bacteria, which may be related to its antimicrobial activity. The chemical composition of oxychelerythrine includes a hydroxyl group and an aromatic ring with two double bonds. This molecule has been shown to inhibit proliferation of cancer cells in culture and induce apoptosis in Mcf-7 cells. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice with metastatic cancer.
