This process yields lactam and staphylococcus as products. 4-Benzoyloxy-2-azetidinone also has antibacterial properties and can immobilize bacteria cells. The immobilized bacteria cells can then be eluted using modifiers or enhancers, enhancing the recovery of desired product by up to ten times.
