Erythristemine is an alkaloid that is biosynthesized from erythrina and found in the cephalotaxus plant. It has been shown to have hypotensive effects, which may be due to its ability to act as a β-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Erythristemine also has anticancer activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by blocking the activity of n-oxide reductase. Furthermore, it has been shown to contain flavonoids with antioxidant properties.
