• Description: Perchlorocinnoline is a triazine that can be obtained by reacting phenol with perchloroacetyl chloride. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and other organic compounds. Perchlorocinnoline has a boiling point of about 210 °C and can be prepared by heating the reaction mixture to about 150 °C for about 2 hours. The yield of this reaction is approximately 60%. This compound also reacts with acetylenes to form alkyl chlorides and elimination products. The elimination reaction is favored at higher temperatures and alkaline conditions, whereas the alkylation reaction is favored at lower temperatures and acidic conditions. Perchlorocinnoline undergoes pyrolysis when heated to about 400 °C, which yields hydrogen fluoride (HF).
