Durantoside II is a tetraacetate iridoid glucoside that has been isolated from the leaves of the tree, Duranta erecta. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cells and induce cell death in vitro. Durantoside II inhibits endothelin-1 induced vasoconstriction and may have potential use as an anti-inflammatory treatment for patients with high blood pressure. Durantoside II is extracted from leaves by acetone/water and purified by column chromatography with ethanolamine as a developing agent. It also shows some activity against parasites such as Echinococcus granulosis.
