Letrazuril has been shown to be safe and well tolerated in humans, with no significant side effects. This drug binds to fatty acids, which are the essential component of the bacterial cell wall, and inhibits polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity. The carboxyl group on letrazuril can react with sodium salts to form the salt of the corresponding carboxylic acid.
