Lanicemine is a drug that acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic coughs and depression, as well as bowel diseases. Lanicemine-d5 is a positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand that binds to the NMDA receptor and can be used to measure its activity. This PET radioligand is used in humans for the detection of myocardial infarcts, dopamine release, neuronal death, and chronic cough. Lanicemine-d5 has also been used in pharmacological studies on glutamate receptors and intracellular calcium levels.
