Product Information
Vitexin-4-O-glucoside is a test drug that inhibits glutamate, a neurotransmitter. It has been shown to inhibit the release of glutamate in the brain, which may have an effect on brain functions. Vitexin-4-O-glucoside has also been shown to block the response of genes to glutamate and reduce plasma concentrations of glutamate. This compound was obtained by extraction from Vitexin, a molecule found in plants such as grapes, apples and citrus fruits. The structure of vitexin is not known with certainty but it has been proposed that it is glucosylated at one or more hydroxyl groups. The chemical structure of this compound can be determined using various chromatographic methods, including high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detection at 254 nm and evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD).
