Oleoside is a natural compound that has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects. It was found to be effective in reducing blood glucose levels in diabetic mice and human subjects, but had no effect on healthy subjects. Oleoside has been shown to inhibit the production of p-hydroxybenzoic acid from benzoic acid by inhibiting the conversion of benzoic acid into p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It also inhibits the growth of cancer cell lines, such as carcinoma cell lines, through its monoterpenoid indole alkaloids. The ligustrosidic acid found in oleosides may be responsible for the anti-cancer properties of this compound.
