Digeranyl bisphosphonate is a statin that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol and fatty acids. Digeranyl bisphosphonate also inhibits autophagy, which is a process that cells use to recycle damaged proteins and organelles. This drug binds to mammalian tissue, allowing it to enter cells, where it inhibits protein synthesis. Digeranyl bisphosphonate can also inhibit the growth of infectious bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis.
