The drug also has potential for use in the treatment of cancer, possessing low toxicity as well as high efficacy for cancer cells. LGD-2226 induces an apoptotic pathway in human adrenocortical carcinoma cells by inhibiting protein synthesis through inhibition of cyclin D1 expression. This drug has been shown to have a tumour suppressor gene activity, with the ability to induce apoptosis in deficient mice with lung cancer.
