Product Information

Name:
MK-8998
Description:

MK-8998 is a drug that blocks the calcium channel and has been investigated as a potential treatment for psychosis. MK-8998 has been found to be effective in reducing symptoms of psychosis in patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. The mechanism of action is thought to be related to its ability to block the calcium channels in the brain, thereby inhibiting neuronal activity. MK-8998 has been shown to have selectivity for the alpha2A subtype of voltage-gated calcium channels (L-, N-, P/Q-, R-, T-) but not the alpha1 or alpha2B subtypes. In vitro studies have demonstrated that MK-8998 inhibits currents through L-, N-, P/Q-, R-, and T-type channels with IC50 values ranging from 0.5 nM to 1 μM.
