Bis-dPEG®9-acid is a synthetic molecule that can be conjugated to peptides and proteins to localize them in mitochondria. This technique has been used to examine the mitochondrial localization of pancreatic cancer-associated proteins and to develop a vaccine against neuronal death. Mitochondria are organelles found in most eukaryotic cells, which produce energy for the cell by converting nutrients into ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. Bis-dPEG®9-acid is synthesized using Tools for Peptide Synthesis, which are designed to control the synthesis of polymers with high precision and accuracy. These polymers are synthesized from monomers containing two or more reactive groups on each end of a linear chain. The polymerization process begins with the reaction between two reactive groups, followed by the formation of an intermediate polymer, which reacts with another monomer unit and so on.
