Lipoamido-dPEG12-Acid is a peptide that is composed of the amino acid sequence Gly-Gly-Lys. The Lipoamido-dPEG12-Acid peptide is a potent activator of G protein coupled receptors, which are transmembrane proteins that act as cell surface signaling molecules. This peptide has been shown to activate ion channels and ligand binding sites on cells, including those for acetylcholine, serotonin, histamine, and dopamine. Lipoamido-dPEG12-Acid is also an inhibitor of the enzyme phospholipase C (PLC). It binds to PLC and prevents it from breaking down phosphatidylinositol 4,5 bisphosphate (PIP2) into inositol 1,4,5 triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG), thereby preventing its downstream effects.
