m-dPEG48-OH is a quaternary ammonium salt that is used to synthesize peptides. It has been shown to be useful for the synthesis of peptides with a terminal carboxyl group, and can be used as a building block in the synthesis of oligo(ethylene glycol) esters. m-dPEG48-OH is typically produced by reacting m-chloro-N,N-dimethylethylenediamine with ethylene oxide, yielding the desired product in low yield. The chemical structure of this reagent is:
CH3Cl + CH2O → (CH3)2NCO+HCl+H2O
m-chloro-N,N,N′,N′,-tetramethylethylenediamine+4CH2O→m-(CH3)4NCO+HCl+H2O
