S-(2-Carboxyethyl)-L-cysteine (SCE) is a metabolite of the amino acid cysteine, which is produced by the oxidation of L-cysteine by cystathionine beta-synthase. Cysteine is found in most proteins, and SCE can be used as a biomarker for oxidative stress in human urine samples. The inhibitory effect of SCE on ionization interface has been studied using an ionization interface and the gene analysis of dehydrogenase deficiency. In addition, it inhibits uptake of acrylonitrile and microenvironment carcinogenic potentials by magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies.
