Toddaculin is a natural product with inhibitory activities against the growth of tumor cells. It has been shown to inhibit the formation and activity of osteoclasts, preventing bone resorption and mineralization. Toddaculin also inhibits the proliferation of osteoclasts by inhibiting the expression of proteins involved in their formation. This compound has been shown to have anticancer activity in vivo and can prevent tumor cell proliferation, as well as induce apoptosis. The mechanism may be due to inhibition of prenyl group metabolism or coumarin derivatives that are involved in cellular signal transduction pathways.
