Robtin is a polyphenolic compound found in the plant species Robinia. The compound is the major constituent of this plant and has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antimicrobial properties. Robtin can be extracted from Robinia seeds by hexane extraction or can be isolated from other plant sources such as Verbascum root. This compound has been found to be present in a number of plants including Robinia pseudoacacia L., Verbascum thapsus L., and Verbascum blattaria L. The structure of robin is characterized by a p-hydroxybenzoic acid group connected to an eriodictyol group through a 6-carbon hexane chain. This molecule also contains two hydroxyl groups on the benzene ring that are substituted with p-coumaric acid groups. It is possible that robin was produced synthetically from tannins (e.g., gallotannins) and prot
