Name:
(Ethoxycarbonyl)glycine
Synonyms:
  • 2-[(Ethoxycarbonyl)Amino]Acetic Acid
  • Glycine, N-(ethoxycarbonyl)-
Description:

Ethoxycarbonylglycine is an organic acid that is a β-amino acid ester. It is the sodium salt of ethoxycarbonylglycine and can be found as a white solid. It is synthesized from glycine, which is synthesized from nitrous acid, and methyl pentadecanoate in solvents such as chloroform and ether. Ethoxycarbonylglycine has been shown to have a chiral center at carbon atom 9. The molecule has two stereoisomers, which are mirror images of each other. The stereoisomers have different physical properties, such as melting point or boiling point. This compound also reacts with carbamic acid or carbamate to form reaction products.
