Paynantheine is a drug that is used to treat malaria. It is an oxindole derivative and has been shown to have a number of pharmacological effects, including the inhibition of cell proliferation, cancer, and the symptoms of malaria. The drug has also been shown to have interactions with other drugs and can cause adverse effects in patients. Paynantheine binds to specific receptors in the human liver and blocks the metabolism of certain drugs. This leads to increased concentrations of some drugs in the blood stream, which may lead to adverse reactions. Paynantheine has been shown to decrease blood pressure by inhibiting sodium channel activity in rat erythrocytes. It also reduces cell proliferation by binding to DNA replication enzymes and blocking RNA synthesis in rats.
