Description:α-Lapachone is a synthetic analog of lapachol. It binds to topoisomerase, which prevents the enzyme from cutting and separating the two strands of DNA. This inhibition causes DNA damage that leads to cell death by necrosis or apoptosis. α-Lapachone also has anticancer activity against murine leukemia cells in culture. α-Lapachone exhibits low cytotoxicity and does not affect healthy cells in culture.
