Product Information
Smilagenin acetate is a saponin that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects. It is a stereoisomer of smilacin and has been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism behind this effect is not yet understood, but it may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis by affecting neurite outgrowth and neuronal function. Smilagenin acetate also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukins such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-12. This compound has also been shown to have a protective effect on neurons that are affected by diabetic neuropathy or sclerosis. Smilagenin acetate can be used in the treatment of these diseases because it protects against oxidative stress induced by free radicals and prevents cell death caused by apoptosis.
