Product Information
- X-a-D-Xyloside
5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl a-D-xylopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate used to detect the presence of beta-glucuronidase in foods, especially those containing pectin. It reacts with an enzyme that hydrolyzes the ester bond at the 5 position of the indole ring, releasing the fluorescent compound indigo carmine. The reaction is not affected by pH and can be used to detect the presence of beta-glucuronidase in food samples. It is also used as a reagent for detecting β-galactosidase activity in biological fluids, including urine and cerebrospinal fluid. The amount of fluorescence generated is proportional to the concentration of β-galactosidase present in the sample.
