It reacts with the enzyme beta glucuronidase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of 1,2 glycosidic linkages in polysaccharides. The reaction results in a fluorescence signal proportional to the amount of beta glucuronidase present in the sample. 5B4C1HITC can be used as a substrate for bioluminescence assays, chromogenic substrates, and staining procedures.
