Description:Hymeglusin is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug that inhibits the synthesis of proteins in cells. It reversibly inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the hydroxyl group on the fatty acid side chain of eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF2). Hymeglusin has been shown to be effective against hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemia cells, HL-60 and K562, in a model system.
