Picloxydine digluconate is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. Picloxydine digluconate has been shown to be active against a wide range of microorganisms, including Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi and viruses. This agent has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of viral proteins and reduce virus production in vitro. Picloxydine digluconate also inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins and reduces bacterial growth in vitro.
The molecular weight is 434.468 g/mol, with a melting point of 155 °C and a boiling point at 237 °C.
