Product Information
Tabersonine hydrochloride is a natural product that belongs to the class of indole alkaloids. It is a naturally occurring compound that has been found in the leaves of the plant Tabernaemontana divaricata, which is native to Madagascar. Tabersonine hydrochloride can be synthesized by reacting tyrosine with hydrogen peroxide and sodium nitrite in aqueous solution at high concentrations. This reaction produces tabersonine as well as other products, such as acetaldehyde, which are removed through repeated extractions with water and aqueous ethanol. The coding sequence for tabersonine was obtained from the plant's genome using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to separate and purify tabersonine from other compounds. A cell culture study showed that tabersonine hydrochloride inhibits the growth of cancer cells, suggesting its potential use in chemotherapy treatments.
