Product Information
- Hexanoic Acid, 3,5-Dioxo-, Methyl Ester
Methyl 3,5-dioxohexanoate is a diketone that can be synthesized using the catalytic hydrogenation of methyl 3,5-dioxopentanoate. Methyl 3,5-dioxohexanoate can be obtained through alkylation with allyl bromide in presence of copper and phosphine catalyst. The reaction yields are higher in the presence of solvent. This compound has been used to synthesize homophthalates and aldehydes with chiral auxiliaries. One example is the asymmetric synthesis of (2S,3aR,6aS)-6-methylheptanal using ruthenium-mediated allylation of methyl 3,5-dioxopentanoate.
