Altenuene is a potent inhibitor of cancer cells and has shown promising anticancer activity. It is a natural product found in the urine of Chinese medicinal plants. Altenuene has been shown to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in leukemia cells by disrupting the cell cycle and inhibiting the production of proteins necessary for tumor growth. Additionally, it acts as a kinase inhibitor, which may contribute to its ability to inhibit cancer cell growth. Studies have demonstrated that altenuene can effectively suppress tumor growth in vivo and has potential as a therapeutic agent for various types of cancer.
